Nintendo’s new Switch: The gaming giant Tuesday showed off the Switch OLED model, the latest version of its popular handheld console. It features a 7-inch 720p OLED screen — up from 6.2 inches on the original Switch — along with an adjustable stand for tabletop mode, a new dock with a wired LAN port, 64GB of internal storage, and enhanced audio. It comes in “white set” and “neon red/neon blue set” and goes on sale Oct. 8 for $350. All existing Switch games and Joy-Con are compatible with the OLED model.
No 4K: Previous reports hinted that the new Switch may support 4K but today’s announcement did not mention the feature.
Switch family: The OLED model is the third Switch console — it is just barely longer and heavier than the original, and battery life is the same. Nintendo began selling the Switch Lite in 2019.
Quotable: “The new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is a great option for players who want to experience the new vibrant screen when playing in handheld and tabletop mode,” Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser said in a statement. “With the addition of this new model to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, people have an additional choice of a system that best fits the gaming experience they desire – whether it’s Nintendo Switch (OLED model), Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite.”
