Multiple cloud services to support digital transform of the Olympic Games TOKYO (July 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The Worldwide TOP Partner of IOC, Alibaba Group, today announced a cloud-based solution that will help the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 staff reduce the chance of heatstroke in the summer.

The technology tracks the body temperature and heart beat of the Olympic staff in Tokyo through an intelligent ear-worn device. A cloud-based system, which uses body temperature, heart rate, and the environment index to determine the heatstroke risk for each individual worker, will be able to identify that level in real time. To reduce the risk of heatstroke, alerts will be sent to people who are at high risk. Multiple heat stress WBGT (Wet Bulb Globul Temperature) meters will monitor the environment, including temperature, humidity, direct or radiant sun. They are located at 14 Olympic competition venues.
Hidemasa Nagamura, Chief Operations Centre (MOC), of the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, stated: “The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games is currently working on various measures to protect staff from heat. It is expected that it will be extremely hot during the Olympic Games. However, we will support the staff involved in the operation of these Games. Alibaba’s cloud-based technology plays an important part in this. The technology is used to measure WBGT at the venue as well as monitor and predict heat stroke risks for staff. The organising committee has teamed up with Alibaba and other Worldwide Olympic partners to ensure a safe tournament environment.

3DAT for athletes: 3D Athlete Tracking (3DAT), hosted on Alibaba Cloud and leveraging Intel technology, gives audiences professional insight into the performance of athletes as it happens. 3DAT uses standard video, AI, and Computer Vision to extract more than 20 points in 3D from an athlete’s body. This data is transformed into rich visualisations that enhance broadcasters’ storytelling of key Athletics sprinting events.
Press Conference on Cloud: This service allows journalists to download and view the video conference videos from the Olympic Games. The service includes video processing, audio/video edit, livestream/VOD distribution, and video downloading function.
TOKYO 2020: Make the Beat! Global fans were invited to record themselves dancing to the beat to cheer on their favorite athletes in the lead-up to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. A compilation of submitted material will be displayed at the event using Alibaba Cloud technology.
Olympic Channel: Olympics.com is hosted on Alibaba Cloud and is designed to keep Olympic athletes and sports relevant over the years between each Olympic Games. It also attracts new, younger audiences to a sport movement.
Alibaba Cloud Pin: This digital wearable was created to make a new contribution to traditional pin collecting and trade culture. It is the first cloud-based pin that allows media professionals at the Main Press Centre (MPC), and International Broadcasting Centres (IBC), to interact with one another and exchange contact information during the Olympic Games.
