NEW YORK – Sept. 14, 2021 – PRLog — Frigid NYC’s Fall 2021 Season will include ‘Growing Up Ringside’, a one-woman show by Mina Liccione, an award-winning comedian and performing artist who grew up in upstate New York and now lives in Dubai, in the Middle East.
She is a graduate of Marymount Manhattan College. Her stand-up specials are airing on Comedy Central, Shahid TV, and MTV. After many years, she’s back in New York with her multi-media solo show.
Growing up Ringside tells the untold tales and images of Mina’s childhood as the daughter to Tony Liccione, an Italian-American boxing promoter. Although she lives in the world of wise men and boxers such as George Foreman and Muhammad Ali, Mina dreams of being a Broadway dancer.
This story tells Mina’s life from childhood through her comedy mishaps to finding her purpose. It continues to the present with her move to Dubai to establish Dubomedy in Dubai, which is home to the first comedy school in the Middle East and the only all-female stand-up troupe.
The show’s heart is a touching tribute of a father-daughter bond that was formed against the background of the 1980’s Rochester NY Boxing scene. They form an unbeatable team and fight in each others’ corners, always finding the humor in everything. It also discusses the honesty and hard hitting punch lines topics like addiction, interfaith marital, adapting to life in a Muslim nation, and her theory about The Father Part lll.
“Like many people who lived abroad during the pandemics, I was unable to visit my family for several years. To combat homesickness, I began video calling my parents each day. We would reminisce on my Dad’s boxing days, and share funny stories from our neighborhood. Many of these people left too early, and my Dad was not as healthy. Mina says that I wrote this show to honour him, my New York roots, as well as my current life in Dubai. It was meant to help bridge these two worlds, and break down stereotypes through art and laughter.
“Because we are all one. Except for those who eat mushy pasta they are all different. Jokes aside, there are many similarities that outweigh differences worldwide. We all love carbs and laughter, and we all just want to be hugged! “
Combining comedy, spoken-word and multi-media, Growing Up Ringside tells the story of love, resilience, and is both funny and heartfelt. It also reveals Mina’s talents as a writer and performer.
Growing up Ringside will be presented at Frigid NYC’s Kraine Theater on September 28, and 29 starting at 7: 00 pm.
” “I’m thrilled that Growing Up Ringside will be returning to the place where it all began,” Mina says. It’s been a difficult couple of years but I decided to make my pain into art. It’s comedy that pain in time can be, and I am able to perform it live here in the city I love. The best homecoming! “
