BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Following the recent launch of a new brand identity, Protective Life Corporation (Protective), a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of Dai-ichi Life Holdings, Inc. (TSE: 8750) celebrated alongside employees, elected officials, business and community leaders and project partners as the Protective Stadium identification signage was officially turned on for the first time at Protective Stadium last evening.
Protective has launched a new visual identity. It includes an appealing logo and a distinct brand color. This reflects Protective’s core values, clarifies its promise to protect its people, business, and community. The brand is now shining brightly in downtown Birmingham and leverages the potential for the Company’s name. It amplifies its purpose, “because we are all protectors”, and allows everyone to see themselves as part the Protective Story.
When we work together towards a common vision, big things can be achieved. Protective’s President and Chief Executive Officer Rich Bielen said that Birmingham has a bright future and that Protective is proud of being part of the development of this stadium. Protective has been putting people first since more than 100 years. That will not change. We’ll continue to push for better ways to help our local communities. Protective employees, elected officials and community leaders gathered to commemorate the lighting of the sign. The event also featured a spectacular finale with a drone show 400 feet in the sky, including 60 drones timed with lighted audience wristbands, counting down to the lighting of Protective Stadium’s new indigo sign.
This is an exciting day in Birmingham and the state of Alabama. Governor Kay Ivey stated that Protective Stadium would have a huge impact on the state and our communities. “Most importantly, the public-private partnership forged through this process has shown us how we can achieve a common goal.”
Participants also heard Trysten Manning’s poem, which was the winner in the Protective Stadium poetry contest. The stadium’s time capsule will contain the winning poem, “Still, My Steel City.”
“Birmingham’s greatest success stories are built upon public-private partnerships, and Protective Stadium was the latest example of this,” stated Randall Woodfin, Birmingham Mayor. “The stadium’s lighting is a major milestone in our progress. It shows that Birmingham can shine brighter together.” We are looking forward to welcoming fans and visitors to Protective Stadium, as we host world-class activities that will help our city move forward.”
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazer football club will call Protective Stadium home. The World Games’ opening and closing ceremonies will be held in July 2022.. Ray Watts, President of UAB, stated that this has been an amazing team effort and that the stadium is proud to be home to UAB Blazer football. “We look forward to welcoming our players, students and fans to this impressive facility in the heart of Birmingham.”
The $200 million multi-purpose stadium is the result of successful collaboration between the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center Authority, Jefferson County, the City of Birmingham, the Jefferson County Legislative Delegation, and the Birmingham corporate community. Tad Snider, Executive Director of the BJCC Authority and CEO of the BJCC, stated that the stadium was a long-standing part of the strategic vision of the BJCC Board of Directors. “When the Authority took action following the return of the UAB football program and began to assemble the public-private support of the many partners in this project, it was clear the stadium would be an opportunity to showcase the momentum of the City of Birmingham.”
