Initial use is a 325MW Data Center for Bitcoin mining, targeting first energized date in Q1 2022, reaching full scale by Q4 2022.
The facility will be a Controllable Load Ressource, enabling more renewable energy to improve grid stability.
This is the first of many Clean Campuses Lancium intends to build throughout Texas and beyond.
HOUSTON, Sept. 15, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Lancium(tm), a technology company focused on the energy transition, today announced it is breaking ground on its first Clean Campus located in Fort Stockton, Texas. Lancium Clean Campuses can be found at crucial points in the transmission system, which are often overwhelmed by renewable energy.
All Clean Campuses can be enabled by Lancium’s Smart Response(tm), which acts as “Controllable Load Resources”. Clean Campuses accelerate the growth of renewable energy, and provide crucial grid reliability products that are not provided by fossil fuel plant. Collectively, Lancium believes CLRs enable grids to absorb more of renewable energy and reduce the time it takes to retire fossil fuel plants.
According to a Company sponsored study “Impact of Large and Flexible Data Center Operations on Future of ERCOT,” (Joshua D. Rhodes , Ph.D., “… allowing data centers to operate in a flexible manner during high-grid prices may allow for greater deployment of wind and solar. This could result in lower overall carbon dioxide emissions. “
” Green energy is the future. However, we need to rethink our grid to accommodate it growth,” stated Lancium Chief Executive Officer Michael McNamara . “Lancium Controllable Loads function like large power plants in reverse, absorbing abundant renewable energies and simultaneously providing grid services. Lancium is working to find large-scale solutions for climate change. “
The initial application at the Fort Stockton Clean Campus will be a 100,000+ square-foot facility for Bitcoin mining and other high throughput computing workloads. The expected completion date for the first 25MW stage is Q1 2022 with the facility reaching full capacity of 325MW by year end 2022.
Lancium, along with its partners, will invest hundreds of million dollars in the facility and create dozens of high-paying local jobs. Lancium would like to express their gratitude to the Fort Stockton as well as the Pecos County for accommodating our growth plans. Lancium looks forward to many years of productive collaboration with the community.
