*) With all the attention on Back 4 Blood’s four-player collaborative action, it’s easy forget to remember that there’s also a story behind the zombie-infected adventure. The game’s story will be revealed in a new trailer before its launch on October 12.
The video doesn’t reveal too many plot details, but it introduces players to Mom, the foul-mouthed leader among the eight Cleaners that they will control. Although she may be getting older, she is clearly not a pushover. She has to manage a diverse group of people from various backgrounds, all working together for one goal: to restore a world that was overrun by monsters. The video also discusses the rise and spread of the Devil Worm. This parasite is responsible for turning most of the population into flesh-eating zombies.
Back 4 Blood is developed by Turtle Rock, an ex-Left 4 Dead developer. The game serves as a spiritual successor for Valve’s zombie series. You can have up to four players working together to eliminate the infected. Each Cleaner can be customized with a variety of perks and debuffs through a card system. Back 4 Blood offers co-op and a competitive mode called Swarm, which pits humans against zombies. Our hands-on impression of the latest open beta can be found here.
Back 4 Blood will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It’s also coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one
