Crystal Dynamics took to Reddit today to condemn harassment and abuse directed at Marvel’s Avengers development team. Both Square Enix and the developer studio continue to face backlash regarding recent microtransactions.
As we reported yesterday, Marvel’s Avengers has introduced paid XP boosts after players were promised cosmetic-only microtransactions prior to the game’s release. Crystal Dynamics reminded players that the decisions made are not always made by one person and often go beyond developers’ paygrades. Square Enix’s decisions are not the responsibility of Square Dynamics’ development team.
A statement from Crystal Dynamics reads:
We appreciate the Marvel’s Avengers community and want to foster an open and healthy dialogue with you (for both criticism and praise). Harassment is not tolerated.
Decisions at the studio are not made by one person, they’re made by a group of studio leaders. While we welcome feedback, it is not appropriate to threaten, attack, or directly target our community team. They will listen to your concerns and help you to voice them.
Help us keep conversations civil and productive while we continue to work toward making Marvel’s Avengers an entertaining and fun experience for you.
Broken promises aside, Marvel’s Avengers XP gains were slowed down as Crystal Dynamics claimed that players were leveling up too fast and becoming “overwhelmed.” That it ended up adding paid XP boosts allowing players to do exactly what it didn’t want them to do beggars belief. This decision was most likely made by the publisher. Harassment and abuse are not allowed. Voting with your wallet is the best way to vote.
