Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco announced today that the Department of Justice has increased the $1 million reward for information leading towards the arrest and conviction of the murder of Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Wales in October HTML1.
With the addition of reward funds raised from the National Association of Former U.S. Attorneys. The total reward now stands around $2.5 million. The total reward for federal prosecutor in Washington’s Western District of Washington was approximately $2.5 million.
The Department of Justice will never forget Tom’s contributions to the department, the cause of justice and the tragedy of his passing,” stated Deputy Attorney General Monaco. “Even though it has been two decades since the murder, the Department of Justice is still committed to this investigation. We know that someone knows something about this crime, and we want them to come forward .”
. In addition to the doubled reward, the department announced steps it would take to intensify its efforts to pursue justice in the investigation. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Washington will join the Seattle Prosecutor Murder Task Force. Additional resources from Seattle, including homicide investigators, will be added to the prosecution team by the department.
“The department will be in the best position to solve Tom’s death,” said Deputy Attorney-General Monaco.
The SEPROM Task Force is a joint effort of the FBI, Seattle Police Department, Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office Western District of Washington, and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The task force is also using emerging and evolving technologies in its efforts.
