ARAB NEWS: CAIRO: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reiterated the need for a legally binding agreement regarding filling and operating Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam.
El-Sisi, during a meeting with Janos Ader in Budapest, stressed that Egypt wants to keep its share of the Nile waters.
“Water is not a source of conflict. He said that water should be used to benefit, cooperate, develop, and construct.
“The Nile River is Egypt’s main water source, and Egypt is one of the countries suffering from severe water shortage.”
Egypt implements water-treatment and seawater-desalination programs at a cost of about $80 billion, said El-Sisi.
He said, “Our Ethiopian brothers say that they won’t try to influence Egypt’s arrival of water, and this is beautiful talk. But, it is essential to reach a legal, binding agreement concerning the filling and operation Renaissance Dam.”
El-Sisi has been visiting Hungary on an official basis since Monday. He expressed admiration for Hungary’s technological and scientific achievements in water use and the development of drought-tolerant varieties of agricultural crops.
He said that Egypt has been able to successfully confront and contain terrorism through a comprehensive integrated approach that incorporates security, development , and cultural aspects.
He said that Islamist extremism is rooted in a misunderstanding of Islam and its tolerant values. These values are based upon diversity, acceptance and striving to the best of all.
El-Sisi stated that effective combating illegal immigration requires addressing its root cause — primarily regional conflicts. He also said that a “firm, clear response” must be given to attempts by certain states to exploit these conflicts. and interfere with the affairs of other nations.
He said that Egypt is interested in more cooperation with the Visegrad group, which is a political-cultural alliance between Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, and Poland.
